5 Simple Squarespace SEO Tweaks to Help Your Business Get Found Locally
If you’re a small business owner, you’ve probably spent more time than you’d like worrying about whether people can actually find your website. I hear this all the time when chatting with local businesses — you’ve got a gorgeous Squarespace site, but you’re not showing up when someone Googles “coffee shop in Dalkeith” or “plumber in Fife.”
The good news? You don’t need to become an SEO expert to make a difference. I want to share a few simple tweaks that I walk my own clients through, and they honestly don’t take long to implement.
1. Claim your Google Business Profile
This is always my first piece of advice. Google loves businesses that it knows are real, local, and open for business. Claiming your Google Business Profile (it used to be called Google My Business) lets you show up on maps and those handy “near me” searches. Don’t overthink it — just make sure your name, address, phone number, and hours are correct, and pop in a few nice photos.
2. Mention where you are
I know this sounds obvious, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked at a client’s site and had no idea where they were based! If you work in Fife or Midlothian (like me), say it proudly. Slip your location into your homepage text, footer, or even your contact page.
3. Think about the words your customers use
When someone’s searching online, they’re not typing “bespoke website solutions.” They’re more likely typing “Squarespace web designer Edinburgh” or “help with SEO for small businesses in Scotland.” Those are the kinds of words you want to weave into your site, especially in your page titles and headings.
4. Show your local roots on your contact page
Your contact page isn’t just for a form. Add your location (the same one you use everywhere else online), and maybe a little line like: “I’m based in Edinburgh and work with clients across Scotland.” It makes you feel more real and helps search engines connect you with local searches.
5. Collect a few kind words
Nothing beats a genuine testimonial. If you’ve worked with happy customers (and I bet you have!), ask if they wouldn’t mind leaving you a quick review on Google or even sending a short testimonial for your site. Not only does this boost your SEO, but it gives potential clients that warm, fuzzy feeling of trust.
Wrapping up
See? No scary tech talk, no overwhelm — just five easy tweaks you can start on this week. Even if you pick just one of these to try, you’ll already be ahead of so many other local businesses.
And if you’d rather not do it alone, that’s where I come in. I’d love to help you polish up your site and get you showing up where your customers are searching. Feel free to drop me a message — I promise I won’t bite!
